Sunset Magazine

In 1898 Southern Pacific Transportation Company launch a tourist magazine to entice people to travel West on their trains and visit a resort owned by them and maybe stay and settle. The magazine is still in production today featuring interiors, gardens, cooking, and travel all with a western united state focus. In the 50's and 60's  When California was in its Modernist boom the magazine covered the new style. I love the gardens, many of the features show designs by Lawrence Halprin, Garrett Eckbo, and Thomas Church

The garden at the Museum of modern art New York City is a work of art in itself.

I realise Im not going to have an original Matisse bronze wall sculpture in my garden but I would settle for a couple of Harry Bertoia chairs. 

The low profile bridge over the pool needs no ornamentation it is pure functionalism.

Miller House and Garden
